International Women’s Week:
Youth Ambassador Miah Whittle talks about the exciting things she got up to for this year’s #IWD2019.
“Overall, I had the most inspiring and spectacular International Women’s Week!”
As I’m a Modern Muse Youth Ambassador journalist, I was lucky enough to attend the everywoman in Tech Forum on the 6th March 2019 at the Hilton Park Lane and I went to an amazing event at Superdrug’s head office on International Women’s Day.

The Hilton Park Lane was picturesque and at the everywoman in Tech Forum, I had the chance to meet loads of
Other female role models I met included Priya Guha (Chair of the Modern Muse Trustees and Venture Partner, Merian Ventures), Melanie Eusebe (Co-founder of the Black British Awards), Jacky Wright (Chief Digital and Information Officer HMRC), Dr Nicola Millard (A Psychologist and Head of Customer Insight and Futures, BT Global Services Innovation Team), Katie King (PhD student in Nanotechnology), Vanessa Okoh (Modern Muse Microsoft Team), Paula Kennedy (Vice President EMEA Markets, CEU, Concentrix) and so many more amazing women.
During the event, I interviewed these role models and found out their reasons for encouraging girls to pursue a career in tech – we’ll be sharing my videos soon.

However, my highlight of the event was the Modern Muse panel and listening to my fellow Youth Ambassador Elizabeth speak words of wisdom.
This event also made me even more aware of these amazing women who are breaking through the glass ceiling challenging sexist stereotypes that are still prevalent for many girls.

On International Women’s Day, I had the pleasure of accompanying Modern Muse Director, Donna Robertson to Superdrug’s IWD event at the state-of-the-art Superdrug Head Office in Croydon.
Not only was I astonished by the venue, but I was also surrounded by beautiful women. The panel was filled with influential women including, Dr Pixie Mckenna and TV presenter Aj Odudu.

They spoke about various topics such as being a working mother, social media and sexism in the workplace. Their conversation made me reflect on what it is like to be a young woman and it made me realise how privileged I was to be able to be amongst a group of resilient women.
Once again, I was able to network with fabulous women such as Modern Muse partners at Superdrug, Gemma Mason, Helen Flaxman and Hannah Neumann, and Zaria Pinchbeck the founder of ZPR and her colleague Daisy Cleary.

This event really emphasised the theme, #BalanceForBetter and it was a great way to meet women who are willing to help raise each other up. The lively atmosphere was contagious, and I would like to thank Superdrug for such a life-changing event.

Hear what Superdrug’s Head of Operations, Amy, said about what they are doing to support more women to pursue leadership roles. Inspiring words from the panel too.
This year’s International Women’s Week celebrations were truly inspirational and I believe that events like these are vital in exposing girls to female role models who are
