During my university placement year, I worked at the Lift London Microsoft studio working on Paint 3D that is currently on over 500 million devices. I used C++, C++/CX, and XAML. I was offered a post-graduation job from this team.
Following my placement internship, I moved back to Seattle, WA for the summer to work on the Xbox team. I used C# and XAML. I was offered a post-graduation job from this team.
Post-graduation I rejoined Lift and started working on Microsoft's virtual assistant called Cortana. I use C# and XAML.
Hello! I am Holly.
I was born in Silicon Valley in California and then moved to the Seattle area in Washington where I grew up. You might just say that working in tech was inevitable given that I lived in the two west coast tech hubs.
After graduating high school, I took the plunge and moved to England! I studied at the University of Surrey in Guildford. It was quite the journey learning to live in a new culture, but it was the best decision I have ever made.
I started my professional career at Microsoft as a software engineering intern in London working on Paint 3D. This then led to me moving back home for the summer to work on the Xbox team.
After graduating, I decided to stay in London and work at Lift again, but this time working on Cortana!
So here I am now, just starting my full-time career. ?
In my free time, I travel, dance, and support environmental and animal causes.

Moving to the UK and doing a placement year was the best decision I could have made. I easily had over 15 months experience working professionally before I graduated. This also helped develop my passion for computer science, plus made my final year of university easier.
I would have invested more time into personal projects when I was younger to discover the technologies that interest me and create a better foundation to build on top of during my formal training.
