Development Manager, BBC Comedy

This was my dream job! Working with some of the best Producers of scripted comedy in the world. I ran the departments' development slate, working closely with our team of in-house producers and their talent to nurture ideas from pitch to script to delivery. I wrote and designed pitches, read scripts and gave notes, managed development spend of around £3m p/a, line managed our Development Assistant. The role was incredibly varied, and I was the central point for all development activity - working closely with both editorial and business focused colleagues. A dream!

Career Break, 6 months

I applied for voluntary redundancy from my role at the BBC, as I had been there for 7 years and the restructure they were undergoing felt like a natural point for me to think about my career, and make the change I was itching for. During my career break I completely remodelled my flat, something I'd saved for and been longing to do but couldn't ever quite find the time when I was working. I also did a little bit of travelling, and enjoyed the summer! I wrote a blog about my redundancy experience. I tapped into my networks and had a number of meetings, several of which resulted in job offers, but I didn't feel any of them were the right move for me. I then had lunch with a friend and she told me about a role in her business, PwC, which she thought I would be great for. I applied, got the job, and here I am a year-and-a-bit later, loving my work and finding myself down a completely different career path!
