I love this job - getting to make a difference to people's future's is such a great thing to be part of.
I grew up in Africa and had an 'interesting' education which meant I failed my 11 plus exam. As a result, didn't get into the school my parents wanted me to go to. Life always has a way of working itself out and I landed in a great school, I worked hard and ended up with 9 O' levels a's and b's (GCSE equivalent), 3 A levels and a degree. I don't think people expected that - one teacher said I'd be lucky to walk out with any O levels... I think that's why I always push myself out of my comfort zone at work, it's really uncomfortable and scary but each time I do something new it always pays off. As a result, today I'm lucky to have a job that could change people's lives!

Follow your instinct and build strong networks when you're younger. Also don't be afraid to ask more senior people how you can get ahead. Be curious and offer to do things that push you out of your comfort zone.

Influencing people, communication skills, networking, presentation skills, project management.
I have had some great mentors and role models and practice makes perfect - I always get involved in new projects or tasks so quite often have to learn new skills on the job which means I am always working on skills outside my comfort zone - rewarding but scary!
I wanted to be an interior designer and create hotel interiors.
I really like my job but in hindsight, I would have worked hard to follow my dreams of being an interior designer. I would also have had a career plan and not been worried about asking people to be my mentor.
